Some images from The Sell Out, a second season episode of The Avengers.

    1. Suburban street. Having driven out of Roland's drive, Steed is followed by Fraser in his Ford Consul.

    2. Same street. Steed's AC Greyhound turns left, about to be followed by Fraser's Ford.

    3. London street. Having left his car at a parking metre, Steed is observed by Fraser who has parked his car further down on the other side of the road.

    4. Same London street. Actor Michael Mellinger as Fraser follows Steed on foot.

    5. Same London street. Steed heads for the entrance of the hotel where Roland is hiding out.

Not too much to go on, but perhaps someone can identify the locations used in these sequences.

I don't know myself, Mikey, but some may be in the Teddington area, close to the studios?

I reckon the hotel he goes into is the Tavistock Hotel in Marchmont St WC1

    Thanks for responding guys.

Gerald - Yes, it's logical that the crew would not travel too far and as such it makes perfect sense for the suburban street seen in The Sell Out was shot locally to Teddington Studios. Unfortunately, having looked at the surrounding streets on Google Earth has revealed nothing that looks right.

tavistock - Yes, I think you've got this one. The hotel seen in the screengrabs does look like the Tavistock Hotel. Please see the other screengrabs from this episode that I'll be posting shortly.

    1. Steed leaves the Tavistock Hotel impersonating Roland.

    2. …and gets into the waiting Rolls Royce.

    3. The Rolls is driven away by the chauffeur, followed by a potential assassin in a Sunbeam Alpine convertible. Both cars turn left into what could be Endsleigh Street. Note: the edge of a street sign in the street that they have just exited.

    4. The Rolls and the Sunbeam drive down a London street.

5 & 6. Both cars turn left and continue along another London street.

Is anyone able to identify the streets I don't know?

So they turn left out of Bedford Way, onto Tavistock Square heading in the direction of Gordon Square.

    Thanks Alan.

Anyone care to tell me the other streets involved?

Another big thank you to Alan for coming up with the goods on this.

That only leaves the suburban street to identify.

Okay here are the final images from The Sell Out.

1 & 2. The Rolls followed by the Sunbeam turn off the road and enter the hotel car park.

    3. The Rolls continues through the car park.

    4. ... and then goes around the side of the building.

    5. ... and parks up behind the hotel.

Does anyone know the whereabouts of this location?

Richmond Hill and The Richmond Hill Hotel. It was the covered balconies in the second picture that gave it away.

Okay, so there is just the one location from this episode that has not been identified.

Steed leaves Roland's place in his AC Greyhound sports car and gets followed by Fraser in a Ford Consul.

It's the same driveway seen later in the episode for the night scene where Dr King is forced by Roland at gunpoint, but Steed is waiting. There is an exchnage of gunfire and Steed kills the traitor Roland.

Thank you! It does help when what you're looking for is only a couple of miles from where you live and on a road you use quite often.

Okay, here are another five images of Steed leaving Harvey's home and these need to be looked at in relation to the first five images on this thread. So far this surburban street has eluded being identified, but thanks to the enthusiasm of tavistock, I'm having another go.

    1. Steed leaves Harvey's home, but there is no shot of an house. Could this be part of a commercial property, or even somewhere on the lot of Teddington Studios, where the videotaped episodes of The Avengers were recorded?

2 & 3. This is the conclusion of this exterior scene. Steed walks in front of a double garage and gets into his AC Greyhound sports car and then drives away. The car parked in the garage is a Sunbeam Rapier, but I cannot fully make out the registration number. It looks like ?47 ?MV. Perhaps someone can work out where the vehicle was first registered from the numbers?

    4. There's a cut in filming now, indicating that the earlier scene and this one where the AC is followed by the Ford Consul could have been done in two different locations. The image shows the Ford Consul, but unfortunately there are practically no distingtive buildings or landmarks in the background.

    5. The AC is seen turning left into another street, with the Consul in pursuit.

Unfortunately MV is a London registration plate, the street lamps look like the ones used in Hampstead but they could have been used in other boroughs.

Thanks for coming back tavistock, I'm still hoping that someone can point me in the right direction with this one, or at least come up with a suggestion or two about it's whereabouts.
