Stayed there three times on the annual Avengers: Dead Man's Treasure Hunt back in 1990, 1991 and 1996, when the hotel was the venue for the event.

Nice one Mikey. I think I've stayed there 7 times in total and only on one occasion when touring with the Randall & Hopkirk Appreciation Society. I love the place.

Nice clip, wec. I've driven around the drive of the hotel, though never been in it. Lovely treeful surroundings!

That tennis court is the one used in the episode of Danger Man when Drake pretends to be a tennis coach for some rich guys daughter and foil the attempted assassination of same rich geezer. You don't see the tudor buidling, but you do see those flattened arches on the right. I spent some time trying to figure out if the scene was from Portmeirion, which was used several times in the 1960 series, but concluded it wasn't. If I'd seen the tudor building I wouldn't have wasted my freezeframing time...

Thanks for the illuminating clip wellendcannons

Been a while since I last saw it but wasn't it also featured in the (slightly unfunny) Leslie Phillips/Roy Kinnear film Not Now Comrade?

I think the episode title is "Vacation", with Esmond Knight playing the wealthy bloke.

Not TV, but the hotel gets another airing here in Stranger from Venus (1954):

Patricia Neal having another fling with an alien, this time played by Helmut Dantine.

Sadly unable to attend this year, but will intend to be at the Chichester 50th anniversary event for THE AVENGERS.

remember meeting john cleese filming fierce creatures at edgwarebury and kirk douglas many years ago there.

why the 50th celebrations for 'the avengers' at chichester ? would be more appropriate at elstree ?

I'm surprised you haven't heard of it Paul, being connected to the local press ! It's an annual gathering for fans of the Avengers which is celebrating its 25th anniversary this year. The event usually involves a tour of film series locations in the Elstree area (not just Avengers, but ITC shows as well), with as its highlight a treasure hunt inspired by the Dead Man's Treasure Avengers episode.

As regards the Chichester event, I think they have an annual media based talk, and this year appear to have made an attempt to pull out all the stops with an Avengers themed weekend. I would agree that Elstree would have been a more appropriate location however. Or Teddington !
