Shocking!!!

Just heard that this iconic location - the former Shoppenhangers Manor in Maidenhead - has been reduced to rubble. Dating back to at least the 1890s (if not earleir) this Tudoresque hall was a landmark on the hillside south of the town, and seems to have been demolished with barely a protest. So much for the conservation of historic and attractive buildings !
Shocking!!!

Seems to be the case:-
Shoppenhangers Manor (Now demolished)
Sad:-(
At least I did get to see it some years ago on one of Jaz Wiseman's The Morning After location tours.
Seems to have gone a while back, although I only heard about it yesterday. I thought it was just the hotel nearby that had been demolished. Can't believe that it was 2003 when I first identified it and Tony flagged it up on the Avengerland site. Seems like only a few weeks ago !
I'm very sad to hear this news. That was a great location too. Regrettably not one I ever got to see.

Demolished in 2007 apparently. Berkshire History: Shoppenhangers (Bray)
Though only built in 1915 it was a good example of its period and I'm surprised it wasn't listed.
I visited it when i stayed at the Holiday Inn next door, in 2006.
It was empty and run down but still looked OK.
Set in nice grounds and I enjoyed the experience.
I was disappointed to see it had been demolished the following year when I returned.
