The only evidence on the Unmutual locations page is a vaguely recalled quote from someone from Lotus Cars who probably wasn't actually involved in the filming.

The runway photo on that page looks nothing like the runway in the opening titles (beyond being a runway). And the Superman IV stills (which were shot at Radlett, albeit later) also look nothing like.

Why are people so insistent on Radlett? Have I missed something? People seem fixated on it!
Plus:

Also Frogmore was a busy aircraft production site at the time with planes flying in and out.

They did have an annual event where they let model aircraft enthusiasts onto the runway on a weekend - film footage of these events show do not match up with The Prisoner runway.

In 1969 UFO used the airfield, but they were using one of Handley Page's jets in the sequence. Again the footage does not look anything like The Prisoner runway. This was the first TV series or film to use Frogmore until the factory went bust in 1970 and the site became available. Still no clear film or photographs that look like the Prisoner runway.

On top of all this Active airports didn't let the grass on the sides of their runways get overgrown.

The production team had time to put chalk marks on the runway so the Lotus could drive in a straight line that missed the camera crew. This would discount an active airport.

Lots of lovely shots of Radlett from THE PROTECTORS "The First Circle":

All showing why this is not the runway from THE PRISONER.

Some more from The First Circle and from U.F.O. 'Identified':

And THE PRISONER once again to compare so we can all safely say that Radlett is NOT the airfield used in THe PRISONER.

Looks convincing to me. I think this is the place.

Why don't we talk in the crypt?

Found this discussion on a another web forum. The suggestion that the airfield was Booker seems to deserve serious consideration. RAF Tangmere is also put forward.

RAF Tangmere would not be as unlikely as it sounds - a LOT of THE PRISONER locations are near the south coast.

If anyone out there is in to Flight Simulation there are people out there with who have 3D maps available of this airfield.

Just as an aside, Mr Anthony McKay (if indeed that is your name), I've never seen anyone else so obsessed with finding filming locations. I thought location hunting might be some strange and embarrassing fixation only I had, but compared to you, I'm a lightweight.

So... erm.. well done. Or something.

You're not the only one Paul!.........I enjoy location visiting when I'm able, 'Peeping Tom','Sister George' etc; places always seem smaller in 'real life'
