This may be a long shot but have any fans ever managed to find the location of the shop used in the opening sequence of Harry Worth.



Everyone knows the scene but where was it shot....?

It was shop in St. Ann's Square, Manchester. I am pretty sure it used the shop window belonging to Moss Bros.

Looking at the original and a recent pic of Moss Bros via Google maps and it does appear to be a good match.

The window in which Harry Worth does his trick was Hector Powe's tailors shop in St Anne's Square in Manchester

I assume the shop window now forms part of the Moss Bros shop in St Annes Square...?



Does anyone know if the actual Doorway is still there....Looking at the scan from Google earth it looks as though it may have been filled in...?



If any readers live in the local area is there any chance of a high quality photo taken from the same angle as the original shot...?



I would go myself but I live way down in Somerset

Another quick follow up...I assume the opening shot was filmed in Manchester because the TV show was produced by BBC Manchester...?



I must dig out a few more old episodes.

It was actually Hector Powes Tailors Shop which is now Starbucks.

The details were checked with Manchester Council Records Office and confirmed from various documents available

Writer Vince Powell, who scripted many shows for Harry, actually worked at Hector Powe's. He was on one of the recent Comedy Map of Britain documentaries talking about the shop window, although it showed Vince outside a 'Monsoon' shop.
