It would be somewhere near Leeds I imagine, as it was a Yorkshire TV production. Perhaps contacting them (now known as ITV Yorkshire) would help you?
please can anyone tell me the name of the house used as melford park in the tv series HADLEGH ?
thanks

thanks i tried them a while ago - also tried to find a gerald harper fan club to ask them .
There was a Kes thread recently where I posted a link to a site which specialises in tracking down film locations. It might be worth an email?
If anyone could post a screen grab of the place someone here may well recognise it, even if they might not be familiar with Hadleigh.
Try and find Hilary Dwyer/Heath, who's now a theatrical producer.
The problem here is that the original series of Hadleigh was made over forty years ago and I doubt whether there's anyone working at Yorkshire ITV these days who was even born that far back or that could remember the series if they had have been. For most people working in television today, anything made earlier than 1995 is positively prehistoric. So the problem in contacting them is that they most likely wouldn't know what you're talking about. I think cornershop could help you out here. He has old TV Times from that period on CD and there's bound to be articles about the series in the magazine when it was first aired, most probably naming the location.
thanks guys . gosh wot a mission !
hillary dwigher might be a start . ? youd have thought gerald harper would have been contactable ?
thanks anyway

Tut, should have thought of this before:
Gerald Harper is represented by:
CHRIS DAVIS MANAGEMENT LTD
Tenbury House, 36 Teme Street, Tenbury Wells, Worcestershire WR15 8AA
Phone: 01584 819005
Fax: 01584 819076
If you write a nice fan letter and enclose an SAE, you should get a reply. Do remember SAE though or no dice.
Oh dear, I was going to suggest attempting to contact Peter Dennis who played Hadleigh's faithfull man-servant 'Sutton', just looked him up on IMDB and sadly he died a few months ago.
It's been several years since i've seen an episode of Hadleigh, I think UK Gold reran some of it in the late 90's which i recall, plus i followed it avidly in the 70's when originally transmitted and can see some of the opening scenes in my head, Hadleigh astride a Horse, a view of a smallish manor house in a yellowy type of stone, as Royal Crescent in Bath, plus a scene of a rolling hill (or is it a dale in Yorkshire!)
Peter Dennis
thanks guys
have rattled off a letter tochris .
no point in contacting peter dennis then
the end credits of the last series showed kilsey crag , aysgarth falls and other parts of the dales ( i live in nidderdale !) but cant trace the house ( melford )
loved the series since its begining - now all available on dvd
cheers

Thanks for that info Euryale, the front aspect of Farnley Hall is seen in the opening scenes, I'd quite happily sit through the whole of Hadleigh, it made a change from the usual Kitchen sink stuff, Ambrosine Philpotts as Hadleigh's scatty Aunt was in several episodes also.![]()
acctually, looking at an episode now. i dont think farnley hall IS the house used as melford.
the entrance is different and also on the top of the building it is edged with small urn- like stonework ( distinctive ) which farnley dousnt have .
will be interesting to see if i get a reply from gerald harper to read what he says.
yes " aunt helen" was a great character . and it was a very stylish, well made drama .
Definitely Farnley Hall. I live here and have just spoken to the Estate manager to confirm!
Hope that helps
Meant to say it is farnley hall otley NOT Leeds
