Default Nil by Mouth (1997)

This is another of my all time favourite british films.

This film moved me so much when I first saw it I had visions of it in my head for days.

Great performances from Ray Winstone & Kathy Burke.

If you have never seen this film then do yourself a favour and go get it.

To my shame I have always jibbed at watching Nil By Mouth as it just sounded so incredibly depressing. Maybe I will try and bite the bullet next time I have the opportunity. I'm quite surprised, given the good reviews it got, that Gary Oldman hasn't done more directing.

It's a terribly difficult film to watch. Well done, but deeply unpleasant.

It should come with a warning you'll need a lie down when it's over.

Great film! Well written and certainly well performed by a superb cast.

Look forward to seeing more from the talented Gary Oldman.

I'm surprised, too. I remember a few years ago reading an interview where he talked about how much he enjoyed directing, how he borrowed a lighting technique John Cassavetes used in "Killing of a Chinese Bookie" for "Nil By Mouth," etc.

"Batman" pays the bills obviously, but Gary's certainly capable of far better things.

Nil by Mouth . . . a chilling film but so perfectly done.

Gary even got a fantastic performance from his sister Laila Morse - something I thought would be impossible judging by her work on Eastenders.

I felt the same way.

A brilliant film but it's realism makes it very tough going for the viewer.
Not a film that I could watch too many repeats of.

Dave.

Ray Winstone said he needed a lie down afterwards.

I'm not in the least surprised.

I bet the wrap party was a hoot.
