Default Gift Horse (1952)

Gift Horse is the famous story of a Royal Navy destroyer and her officers and crew during the early years of the Second World War.

Gift Horse is one of my favorite british movies.

Good story with great performance from Trevor Howard and Richard Attenborough.
btw I like the romance between James Donald and Joan Rice in the movie.

What do you all think of it?

"He means it. I'm sure he does. It's a question of face, pure and simple. He can't give in."

A film I like a lot but one which is often derided - or at least damned with faint praise - by the reviewers when it is scheduled on TV. I think it is often thought of as second best to the John Mills type war films which are shown more often. But I think it stands up well and Trevor Howard plays the 'uptight' Captain very well even if that is a style which he honed to perfection over the years.

It can definitely stand comparison with similar films of the time and is better than most. It deserves a better reputation. The supporting cast is excellent.

A film that I would watch if it was on the box, so it must be good.

caught up with this film last night, very very good. I thought that Trevor Howard was particularly good in this. When he is having a drink with the crew and gets a telegram, his acting his superb and you really do feel for the man. Allin all a very good film.
