Default Blue Lagoon (1949)

My favorite british film is the above. The reason why is that it starred our oun jean simmons and was made by our oun j arthur rank. the later versions of this film were not as good, including the acting.

did anyone out there see this film ?

Yes, a beautiful film.

Watching it as a boy, I fell for the girl playing the young Jean Simmons - and was then amazed when I found out it was Susan Stranks form Magpie! Who, of course I was also in love with. Already I mean. It was like a time warp. Or not.

Donald Houston is great here too. But not as pretty.

The remake is a soft-porn monstrosity.

Sorry, T. Just realised you wouldn't have a clue what Magpie was. It was a 1970s kids' TV magazine show. Susan Stranks was the first female presenter and was a very blue-stocking head-girl sensible English sexpot. I loved her.

She was about the age I was when I first saw The Blue Lagoon when she made the film - 10 years old.

Both versions were shot on the same Island close to Fiji.

It is intesting to note that neither of the talented leads evers quites achieved their potential. JS did have a hollywood career but never really became one of the legends despite a number of very good films and performances. DH despite a charismatic persona was never really used well as a leading man and was demoted to character parts pretty quickly.

Thats the joke that killed the Music Hall !
