Default The life and death of Peter Sellers

It isnt really a British film as the cast members were from different countries,i'm not sure where the director is from, but Peter was a British actor and comedian so i thought it would be appropiate to put it in this section.

I think all the cast were excellent at playing the roles they had in this film, and the sotry of Peter's life was very well put together.

Yeah the story was very well put together although there is a bad sequence in the film where they premiere the film Revenge of the Pink Panther and then show clips of The Pink Panther Strikes Again which was quite funny though,I would have thought the makers would at least get that right.

There's a lot of dignity in that, isn't there? Going out like a raspberry ripple.

i got the feeling that they must have looked at the rushes and thought "oh dear " then edited it down to something vaguely acceptable .quite frankly the scenes where sellers morphed into his mother etc were creepy .if you werent aware of how good sellers was [ anyone under 28 wouldnt have been born when he died ] and wanted to investigate ,watching that movie would put you right off

I've got the book on which the film it is based on and frankly, I found it a very difficult read as it jumps around all over the place rather than work forward in a linear fashion.

It also establishes Sellers as a 'monster' up front before giving you the 'evidence' to support this viewpoint which I found annoying.

I couldn't finish it - parts of it were good but it wasn't very well structured.

The film i thought had quite a good middle section but the last 10 years of his life were rushed through in about 5 minutes and pretty incoherent - the film was clearly originally much longer and then cut down by about half in the editing room.

Couldn't agree more. I thought Roger Lewis's book a textbook case of how not to write a biography and symptomatic of an author who felt far superior to his subject. I do like this movie a lot, though, and think it gets close to what Sellers was like as a person. The Strangelove section is absolutely masterly - capturing the genius of the creative process and ending with that incredibly funny/sad scene with his mum in the car as she drives home.

Absolutely agree about the Roger Lewis book typical academic superiority complex. Tremendously over-long and leaves you with very little, much like the film.
