The highway robbery was from another film - Restless Natives. have a look at this site for more details.
Restless Natives - Scotland the Movie Location Guide - The music for That Sinking Feeling was composed (according to IMDB) by Colin Tully, who also did the music for Gregory's Girl. The soundtrack by Big Country is available as Restless Natives and Rarities. Amazon.co.uk: Restless Natives and Rarities: Amazon.co.uk:: Big Country And if you use this link to buy the disc, Mr Crook gets a small donation to help run the PaPAS site! Nick |

Thanks Nick! There we go, not Bill Forsyth, but similar in tone...and a soundtrack so like Big Country that is was Big Country! Thanks for clarifying it for me. Nick you may also help me with another slightly off topic quest. Around the same time, early 80's there was a one hit wonder song from a scottish singer - something like Over the Sea. He looked a bit like Jimmy Nail and sang about getting back to his lassie o'er the sea. the video was striking (for the 80's) - a highlander swinging a large sword around and round surronded by pipers - firstly on the top of Brooklyn Bridge Pylon, and secondly on the roof of the Scottish castle Eileen Doon (IIRC) Lots of aerial shots, and a camera fixed to the sword as it swung around. any ideas on title or artist? Jesse Rae. All of his records were Export Only to England, as he was a bit of a nationalist.
from the BBC News website. "Sword taken from singer at court Mr Rae is known for his Highland dress Police have seized a five-foot Claymore sword which has been the trademark of a Borders musician for the past 20 years. The Claymore was removed from Jesse Rae when he arrived at Selkirk Sheriff Court to fight a civil action. Mr Rae, 53, from St Boswells, wrote Inside Out for Odyssey, which reached number three in the early 1980s. He has been charged with being in possession of an offensive weapon. Police said a report was being sent to the procurator fiscal. The singer, who also wears a steel helmet and kilt, was attending a hearing last week in his long-running sequestration dispute with the Royal Bank of Scotland. The Claymore, meaning "great sword" in Gaelic, was a mainstay of Highland warriors in the 15th and 16th century." Have a look at the On-U Sound fan site for some more details. I had no idea that he'd worked with Adrian Sherwood, even though I've got a number of African Head Charge records, and one of my favourite Einstürzende Neubauten tracks is Yü-Gung (Fütter mein Ego). I remember the Jesse Rae video well - absolutely hilarious...and here it is... YouTube - Jesse Rae - Over the Sea every cliche present and correct!!
I always wondered why he wore that facemasked helmet...but if, as you say, he looked like Jimmy Nail, that would explain it.. Last edited by penfold; 01-09-2006 at 11:53 AM.. |
