It's not true that John Cleese was ever cast as Brian Cohen. He says himself in 'Monty Python: Almost the Truth' that he wanted the part but that it was always intended for Graham and that he felt that was the right decision.

Nope. I studied it in a controlled environment and presented to peers for review before publishing in New Scientist, where the paper received international acclaim. Sorry, but it's as close to fact as we can get without scientific advances that are at the moment out of our reach.

Having said that, you're right that certain segments are memorable and interesting, but they all feel as if they stalled at the 'interesting idea' stage, and were never worked up into the slick sketches we remember from other films/episodes. What I meant was that none of them is good in terms of Monty Python; I mean, Monty Python good is really SO GOOD that mediocre looks poor and dull by comparison. It is true that the sum of its parts is greater than its whole, but even the sum of its parts isn't really worth the trouble. Fact*.

I like the film so much I would never attend such a function. It verges on the 'no no' of explaining a joke.

IMHO the greatest film ever made. It's just perfect in every way. I bought the script and used to read it on the tube, I used to regularly embarrass myself each time laughing out loud in tears. There are some really funny scenes that sadly didn't make the final cut.
