According to the commentary on the DVD, the Minis thrown from the back of the coach were not Coopers, they were just standard Minis, and they actually threw 6 out, 2 of each colour.

Well, I am sorry but i do not agree with the info on The Restoration Job site, since I have seen one of the original Coopers with my own eyes.

They say on the site that all they possess now are the number plates! Anyone can create a set of number plates.

Even if you did possess the plates and even the Registration Documents, Swansea would not allow you to attach these plates and register replica vehicles using the original numbers

To resurrect an old registration Number you must be in possession of he vehicle itself or at least a substantial part of it. Merely holding the Reg. Documents and or the original plates would get you nowhere.

And since at least one of the vehicles is already registered, you cannot register another one with the same number.
Is this all a bit of a con??

I remember a few years ago that there was some publicity about the registrations being offered for sale by the DVLA. This would suggest that the registration numbers seen in the film were false because, as you quite rightly say, they couldn't be re-issued to another vehicle.

What I understand often happen is that DVLA 'loan' registrations, probably the lead actors initials, and the registration is only valid for the duration of the film and is then withdrawen

I doubt that this happened in the case of the minis since from memory the registrations had no particular significance.

I have only just watched the American 2003 version, and in my opinion, as good as it is, it's not a patch on the original British made one, which is just pure heaven.

After all these years, I still wonder what Michael Caine's 'idea' was

the ending was like that because it was assumed there would be a sequel .the film didnt do as well as expected in the usa so there wasnt !
