I too think this film is a classic. The whole cast are terrific, especially Terry-Thomas as the bounder. The classic tennis scenes are even filmed at my favourite location, The Edgwarebury Hotel in Elstree.

A delight from beginning to end, with Carmichael, Sim and Terry-Thomas all at the top of their game. A pity Peter Ustinov didn't get an on-screen credit for his work on the screenplay.

Along with expert support from the likes of Winsome Welshmen Price and Jones (“One of the old-type exhaustible horns, runs on the helical friction principle.” “Oh? What’s that?” “Too complicated to explain. Either you know or you don’t.”) - and ear-twitching John Le Mesurier, not to mention Hattie Jacques and Irene Handl and Kynaston Reeves (“And we don’t tolerate filthy language in this club, sir!”), the scenes featuring Edward Chapman's smug, officious chief clerk Gloatbridge also deserve a mention, whether he’s extolling the frugal virtues of The Hampshire Buttery (“A very satisfying meal for seven-and-sixpence”), or being ruthlessly taken down a peg or two by the post-Yeovil Palfrey’s judicious application of “interpolated accountancy”.

Great stuff, up there with The Happiest Days Of Your Life.

    Oh what an absolute classic.

I fell in love with Janette Scott (Avril) the first time I saw it.

As Simon says there is so much in this film, it's a hoot from start to finish, never a dull moment.

A cracking, cracking film with a top-notch British cast! We have it on DVD and it comes out regularly.

Anyone know what Terry-Thomas' pretty little sports car is?

Hi Andy - an Aston Martin. You should find more info in earlier postings.

Many thanks for the car info. I'm not well up on Astons - it looked Italian to my eyes. Thanks once again.
