Wife watched it again, then as much as she could on the 'hour later' channel. It is amazing that the scenes were shot without any indication that there had just been a war, and that there were no restrictions...rationing particularly. Petrol certainly was not freely available!
Still stands up very well for a filmed bit of theatre
Though I wish Cecil Parker who first did it on stage had been cast instead of Rex Harrison. Because there's no film that the presence of Cecil Parker wouldn't improve.
Strange that! It was shown here in Australia just the other day on Pay TV.
Good to see again, although the film seems to have an American feel to me - even though it has a good British cast and the location shooting was around the Denham area.
Dave.
Arcati, explaining her late arrival: "I had a sudden presentiment that I might have a puncture, so I returned home to fetch my bicycle pump. Then of course I didn't have a puncture after all!"
Condomine: "Perhaps you will on the way home?"
Wonderful film, I watched it and 'A matter of life and death' back to back a couple of weeks ago, great stuff
At one point, there is a scene with an RAC patrolman directing traffic! Was this really something they did? Was it just during the War and immediately after, when coppers were a bit scarce? When did it stop?

I'd love to go for a walk past here, (back-then, that is !!) - It looks so quiet and peaceful.
