Default A Girl Must Live (1939)

Don't know if many know this comedy starring Margaret Lockwood, Renee Houston and Lilli Palmer.

Lockwood runs away from her Swiss finishing school and poses as the daughter of a star to try and kick start a career for herself.

She lodges at a house of struggling showbiz types, including Houston and Palmer as a couple of chorus girls who spend the whole time fighting over work and who should get a crack at the rich men they encounter.

It's a really sexy film for it's time, (lots of short skirts and underwear wink ) and has a sharp, sassy script.

Renee Houston is terrific clap , shame she didn't get many decent roles.

Intriguing to see Naunton Wayne playing a slimy crook instead of his usual gentleman character.

A nice touch before the opening credits when the leading ladies introduce themselves.

I think it's a gem. thumbs_u

I vaguely recall this one - I must dig it out again.

Wasn't Renee Houston very 'glam' ; I seem to recall it being quite a surprise to one who first came to know her in CARRY ON AT YOUR CONVENIENCE as a sprog...

Yep, dolled up to the nines.

She was in her mid 30s when this was made (born 1902) so by the time of her post war appearances she's reduced to landladies, battleaxes etc.
