Default Melancholia (1989)

Melancholia

STARS: Jeroen Krabbe and Susannah York
SYNOPSIS: A German art critic is asked to assassinate a Chilean doctor by an old friend.

Filmed around London and Hamburg. I've watched this a number of times. Have the VHS.

I like the "intelligence" of the characters. No shoot-em-up Amercian crap.

The guy goes about the exercise of killing the victim systematically and intelligently. Long sections with no dialogue, just natural sound.

The opening voice over is wonderfully philosophical. Paraphrasing: At a certain age, life becomes mundane and routine. Little inspires. The only solace is that everyday is one day less. The a sudden call out of the blue, and.....

Great shots around Harrods and Bunch of Grapes in Sth Ken.

5-star IMHO.
