Last Orders (2001)
I caught this one on TV last night. What an excellent piece of work. The plot seemed replete with the workaday poignancy that British films of the era of 'Brief Encounter' could do so well. The other thing that struck me was how well made the film was. The opening sequences were a carefully constructed series of flashbacks linked to the ongoing story being told in the present. This must have been an arduous task and yet it worked very well. There had been immense care taken to find actors who could convey a physical and behavioural resemblance to the main characters who were now old. There was also a clever makeup regime that allowed the main actors to double for themselves as middle-aged and sixty-plus. |

I agree absolutely! A superb film...unjustly put down by the critics on both sides of the Atlantic. |
