Default Indiscreet

I love most of Cary Grant's films but my favourite film of all time is "Indiscreet" with him and Ingrid Bergman.

For me, the casting was inspiring! Two sisters, one played by a Swedish lady and the other by a British lady with a crisp English accent! Totally non-PC but it just didn't matter somehow; they were still believeable as sisters to me!

Grant seemed to take a step back for Bergman in this film and played her stooge - quite brilliantly. His Scottish dancing still creases me up every time I see this film.

Megs Jenkins and David Kossoff playing housekeeper and chauffeur, a married couple living-in, worked so well together and Kossoff's timing, as always was impeccable.

But the man who stole the most memorable line in a film ever - in my humble opinion - was the wonderful Cecil Parker.
After spending the evening with his sister-in-law (Bergman) who was 'acting-up' because she had just found out something unforgivable about her lover (Grant), he looks quite befuddled and says, "I'm too old for evenings like this, I always was." Classic!

I love this film and don't think it gets the recognition that it deserves. But, of course, that's only MY opinion!

Starry x.

Of Cary Grant's "older role" films, this has to be my favorite. And while Ingrid's more famous for other films, I can watch this film so easily compared to their earlier, far more intense pairing.

I agree about Cecil Parker - he really makes so many scenes. His pool-room perplexion as he listens to Cary explain while he's telling women he's married when he's not...

His threat to his wife after hearing she's read his office papers...

And yes that whole 'acting up' scene, Cecil trying to tolerate all of the maneauverings.

This is an easy film for me to pop in and watch any ol' time.

Love this film, both as a Cary Grant film and as a beautifully written comedy. I was very pleased to see it mentioned here as it is so often overlooked or, even more often, classed as one of Grant's/Hepburn's lesser efforts and of little comedic value; "laboured" is the word my tv guide uses, if I remember correctly, whereas imdb users seem to be slightly kinder by generally calling it "average". Personally, I love everything about this film: the performances, the writing, the direction, but most of all I like that this is a comedy strictly for grown-ups. It is witty and sophisticated and expects and assumes that its audience can appreciate this.
