i love this film,Beryl Reed was fantastic as aged schoolgirl like sado.

Harry Andrews played the tough big brother homosexual .who was the young guy in it and what else has he done?who played dada?and what year was it.and for another point who was the playwrite.where was it filmed.

i went to see the guy who played on the soundtrack l3 yrs ago at the jazz cafe in camden.who is he ?

No- the graveyard is Camberwell Old cemetery- very near where I live. It is an amazing place, particularly on a drippy wet day! I love Joe Orton plays and this is a good version, although I don't think they translate that well to the cinema.

The film version of Loot is a disaster - Sloane translated reasonably well though lost the stuffiness and oppression of the stage version.

Loot - I didn't mind it but it wasn't great, the biggest flaw IMHO is the casting of Dickie as Truscott.



Entertaining Mr Sloane - much better but still a disappointment for us Orton fans.



There was a really good TV version of What the Butler Saw a few years ago ..... if you think the Farrelly brothers are in bad taste think again .... Orton was the master. Hilarious!

I have been watching Beryl Reid in Entertaining Mr Sloane. What a thoroughly enjoyable film, the whole cast were brilliant. I’m now going to track down some of Joe Orton’s works, pity I left it so late. I would have loved to have seen this in the theatre. After watching the film I felt a little sad, most of the cast are no longer with us.

I have been watching Beryl Reid in Entertaining Mr Sloane. What a thoroughly enjoyable film, the whole cast were brilliant. I I would have loved to have seen this in the theatre.

I did see this in the theatre, with Beryl, Harry H Corbett and Kenneth Cranham. It was a marvellous production. BR wore high red stilleto shoes - she always said she chose the shoes first when interpreting a character - and brought everything to the role that she did in the film. Although Harry Andrews was the definitive Ed, Harry H Corbett got a chance to show how talented an actor he was.

If you haven't read the book I strongly recommend "Prick Up Your Ears". For me it towers above the film.

Beryl was really a gorgeous lady, and gorgeous in this movie too.

she was gorgeous in the Killing of sister George... too

she even goes back to .. the Belles of St Trinians ... 1954 !

I saw 'Sloane' years ago with Adam Ant ... I can't remember who else was in it. The TV version of What the Butler Saw Is Pretty good. I was once in a stage production of The Ruffian On The Stair, that's good too. There was a TV production of it but I think it is lost.

The film version of Loot with Hywel Bennett and Richard Attenborough is pretty good.



I second Bats' recommendation of the BBC's What the Butler Saw - Dinsdale Landon is hilarious. But where can we get a copy?

thinking about it, Barry Evans would have been perfect casting

in the Sloane movie... he was on the scene around that time.

I don't think Peter McEnery is ideal casting but I really can't see Barry Evans in the part, I have never seen anything in his work to suggest he could have shown the duplicity and underlying nastiness of the character ( In "ideal casting world "I think it would have been great to see a young Cary Grant in the part).
