Through the years I have always tried to convince myself that the carry on films were'nt funny. But I can't help watching them whenever they're on. One scene that always makes me laugh is in "don't lose your head" when Charles Hawtry asks Kenneth Williams if he was looking for the black fingernail. When he says that he is Hawtry hits him on the back of the hand with a hammer and says "there you are then".

It's childish, but it works

The Fast Lady is a great comedy from 1962/63 in colour with a small but rock solid main cast of James Robertson-Justice, Stanley Baxter, Leslie Philips, Julie Christie, the wonderful Kathleen Harrison as Mrs Staggers. There are bit parts and cameos from people like Dick Emery, Clive Dunn, Terence Alexander, Derek Guyler, Esma Cannon, Michael Balfour.

We've had a thread going on it before on here.

WHAT A CARVE UP (circa 1962) is not a Carry On film per se, but it features many of the standard Carry On team and in my opinion is every bit as good as CARRY ON SCREAMING with which it shares a storyline.

???

CARVE UP is your eternal 'Old-dark-house-reading-of-the-will-bump-off-the-relatives' plot.

SCREAMING is a 'Mad-scientist-disappearing-young-ladies' plot.

I don't see the general similarity (but I do love both films ! )

More films on my list for film-festival intro's. It's not unexpected that so many of these films didn't make it to full North American release, and now I'm hoping that we can find good theatrical prints.

But after a lousy day at work, watching one of the carry on movies is enough to relax and make me laugh and the funniest for me was carry on camping.
How could anyone disagree? Betty Marsden was absolutely hilarious and of course completely barking.

Tommy Cooper Joke: why is it that if you let out a scream in a library everyone scowels at you silently and says "shhhhhh", but if you let out a scream in an aeroplane everyone joins in?....har har har

I was just about to add that. I haven't seen it for years.

Carry On films are so great, in these PC days all the humour has disappeared from films, we mustn't upset anyone!
