Default Carry on Camping

I am sure i am going to be screamed at for this...

But after a lousy day at work, watching one of the carry on movies is enough to relax and make me laugh and the funniest for me was carry on camping.

It is my favorite because it is such an evident movie spoof that every time i start to watch it, i have a silly grin on my face...

Who can forget Kenneth Williams saying Chests Out Girls and Barbara Windsors bra flying off courtesy of a prop man and a fishing rod.

I like the entrance fee conversation with the farmer.

"a pound..."

"Oh! Pete!"

It's an absolute classic - as is Peter B's overall portrayal of the avaricious Mr. Fiddler.

I'm sure OldmanTV you won't get shouted down for your appreciation - there are many of us here feel the same way about the Carry Ons. SCREAMING is my particular fave, that spot on pastiche of Hammer Horror; and such a great performance from Harry H as Bung !

He's just gone for a "P"...

Filmed in November (I think) and the grass and leaves were sprayed green to make it more summer-like

Despite everyone remembering it for Babs' brief topless appearence, I think it's one of the most inventive of the Carry Ons. The spoof nudist movie is a classic!

I love all the 'Carry Ons' but my favourites are "Carry On Sargeant" which was on this week and "Carry On At Your Convenience".

Sid's accent in "Don't Lose Your Head" as The Black Fingernail is brilliant. Has me chuckling through out the film.
The greatest line ....
"Infamy, infamy they've all got it infamy. Cleo, I think.
C.O. Sergeant reminds me of my own basic training, many years ago.

The films also show the great tallent of Kenneth Connor.

"How about dat, a? How about dat?

It's a while since I've seen it, was the footage shot for CO Camping or was it
borrowed ?

My favourite since the late 70's has been Cleo... "this asp is deadlly..." etc.

"Oh! Pete!"

I saw part of a second Carry On Camping film last week, Carry On Behind (1975) which featured many new cast members plucked from sitcoms of the day; Ian Lavender, Windsor Davies, Adrienne Posta, Carol Hawkins, George Layton. Also Jack Douglas and the beautiful Elke Sommer.

It was okay, but it's strange that they chose the same camping/caravanning theme as before. Unfortunately no Sid James though, always better with Sid's laugh BWA-HA-HA-HA!

Has anyone seen these CARRY ON's in theatres recently? (Yes, I'll scour the distributor offerings to find if we can get them. We've got enough interest for more Will Hay and Norman Wisdom films for 2008 and 2009, and maybe a few CARRY ON's would make interesting viewing.)

I liked the Carry On..... films, especially after Nurse when they began to find their feet that would carry on (sorry) for many films. However,I agree with Sam,Behind was a pastiche of using sitcom stars (although Carol Hawkins was worth a look) and the series began to wane. England,Emmanuelle,Columbus were dreadfully unfunny - no doubt Sid James would have turned up his stubby little nose at them.
Carry On Regardless was on last week and what a parade of actors it had. I was going to mention the lovely Liz Fraser, but she has her own little fan club on this site now.

Strangely enough, although I watched Carry-Ons on TV when I was a nipper and enjoyed them (cleavage bits usually), as comedies I didn't rate them much.

Looking back I prefer British comedies like The Fast Lady, Too Many Crooks and some of the older Ealings such as Kind Hearts and Coronets. The humour in the Carry On films was sometimes a little too much seaside postcard, but the actors were very likeable.

More note-taking for me... FAST LADY, huh? Never heard of it. The others, I know and enjoy, so FAST LADY seems to be keeping pretty good company.

You'll get to see Stanley Baxter snog Julie Christie.
