Plot SynopsisThe new M is worried that James Bond's (Sean Connery) reflexes are slowing down, so he sends him to a health farm. While there, Bond stumbles unwittingly across a plot to replace the cornea of a drug-addicted USAF officer named Jack Petachi with a replica of the cornea of the President of the United States. This will enable SPECTRE - the organisation behind the plot - to use Petachi to authorise the replacement of two dummy warheads with real nuclear warheads in a cruise missile flight test. The missiles are fired - with the real warheads - and SPECTRE intercept them in mid-flight. They also kill Petachi, just to cover their tracks, and send a blackmail demand to the governments of the world - they want a sum equivalent to 25 per cent of the sums paid for oil by the members of NATO. Bond is sent to the Bahamas to make contact with Petachi's sister, Domino (Kim Basinger), but is identified by SPECTRE agent Fatima Blush (Barbara Carrera). SPECTRE attempt to kill Bond, and Bond realises that Domino's lover, Maximillian Largo (Klaus Maria Brandauer), is involved with SPECTRE and is probably responsible for stealing the nuclear warheads. Largo imprisons Bond, attempts to sell Domino off to a group of nomads and puts SPECTRE's plan into effect, moving one nuclear weapon to a position beneath the White House in Washington, DC, and attempting to move the other one to a location in North Africa close to the Middle East's oil fields through a series of flooded underground tunnels. Bond realises that a pendant given to Domino by Largo, the Tears of Allah, gives a clue as to where Largo is moving the second weapon. He and Felix Leiter, along with a detachment of Marines, intercept Largo's men and, during a pitched underwater battle, Domino kills Largo. |
