Plot Synopsis

Mariner Captain Jack Lanniman (Bob Hoskins) is desperate to follow in the footsteps of his hero, Captain Scoresby who sailed to the Arctic in 1791 from Whitby Bay. Captain Jack believes that Scoresby’s hometown has not adequately honoured his achievement. Jack assembles his own madcap crew on an un-seaworthy vessel and sets sail to retrace his hero's steps while pursued by NATO and Fleet Street.
