Plot SynopsisContemporary black comic thriller set Glasgow. This
lamentable feminist revenge tale combines strands of Thelma and Louise
with Shallow Grave into a ludicrously predictable and occasionally disturbing
picture lacking any sympathetic characters. As a supposed black comedy
the film misses its mark and is open to wild misinterpretation.
Lippy Dorothy (Susan Lynch) saves her dizzy blonde friend Petula (Rachel Weisz) from a beating by her drug-fuelled boyfriend Brian (Tom Mannion) by knocking him over the head with a metal bar. Subsequently, Brian dies as a result of the attack and the women have a corpse to deal with. To evade responsibility for Brian’s death, they invent a fake kidnapping and try to extort a million pound ransom from his rich older brother Ronnie (Maurice Roeves). Their plan hits a snag, however, when crooked Detective Hepburn (Alex Norton) begins to suspect the women and offers to be on the take for their intended get-rich plan. Soon after, Dorothy's abusive ex-boyfriend Tony (Iain Glen) emerges and also wants in on the deal, leaving the two women to compose a different plan. |
