Plot Synopsis

Hit-and-miss third entry in Rank’s successful yet undemanding ‘doctor’ series inspired by the novels of Richard Gordon.

Simon Sparrow (Dirk Bogarde), misses the opportunity to become house surgeon at St. Swithin's Teaching Hospital to his rival after crossing swords with the irascible Sir Lancelot Spratt (James Robertson Justice). Seeking pastures new, he takes on a junior partnership in a country practise, but is forced to flee from the amorous attentions of his partner’s wife. In Harley Street he deals with the wealthy, then goes on a Riviera spree with his colleague Baskin (Donald Sinden) who has come into money. After his series of misadventures, Sparrow ends up back at St. Swithin’s after being offered the post as surgeon.
