Plot Synopsis

Gentle vintage comedy adapted from Nigel Tranter's novel and set against the backdrop of spectacular Highland scenery. Starring Bill Travers, Fiona Clyne, George Cole and Gordon Jackson.

A young Hebridean farmer, Ewan McEwan (Bill Travers), goes wife-hunting on the Scottish mainland when the island's elders decree there is too much in-breeding on their fair shores and as a consequence they forbid first cousins to marry. Believing she is Ewan’s first cousin, his sweetheart Katie (Fiona Clyne) leaves the island and takes passage to Glasgow. With only a handful of women to choose from, Ewan heads to the mainland in search of a wife. Arriving in Oban with a wish-list of requirements for his new prospective wife, Ewan soon discovers that the police are after him believing him to be a slave trader and salmon poacher — and he does not know why. The misunderstandings are eventually cleared up and Ewan returns home with a choice that shocks the craggy locals.
