Plot SynopsisNostalgic pre-Swinging 60s bedroom farce directed at pace by James Hill and adapted by John Mortimer from his own play. This predictable romp is splendidly played with a measure of charming innocence by Shirley Anne Field and Robert Stephens, with Kay Walsh and Nigel Davenport's supporting roles particularly worthy of note. A married junior wallpaper executive (Robert Stephens) arranges midday romantic trysts with a female work colleague (Shirley Anne Field) in the design department only for the rendezvous to continually go awry in cinema’s, art galleries and parks. Frustrated at being interrupted they book a hotel room, but still all does not go smoothly with the inquisitive landlady unravelling their lies and a girlfriend who begins to imagine the whole story is actually true. |
