Plot Synopsis

A Rank quota-quickie thriller in the vein of The Lady Vanishes and starring young Canadian-born actor Vernon Gray in the lead role. This train-bound comedy-thriller is devoid of thrills and utterly lacking in eccentricity despite the presence of May Hallat and Ivy St Helier as a couple of dotty whodunit writers.

Bob (Vernon Gray) and Mary Wright (Ann Walford) are honeymooning reporters for the Morning Echo when their editor puts them onto a big story involving ‘The Gold Express,’ a train leaving Northborough carrying a shipment of gold from the Spanish Armada. Also on the train are eccentric sisters Agatha (May Hallatt) and Emma Merton (Ivy St. Helier) and guardian of the gold Luke Dubois (John Serret). Attempting to steal the gold from the London-bound train are Mr Rover (Patrick Boxill) and crooked van guard; also two accomplices waiting in a truck for the pick-up.
