Plot SynopsisPostcard comedy-drama comprising of a compendium of short stories based on the Jerrard Tickell novel The Hand and the Flower. Charley Porter (Stanley Holloway) is the captain of The Hand and Flowers darts team, a small London pub team travelling to the French town of Boulogne for its annual darts tournament. Led by landlord Fred Collins (James Hayter), many of his patrons rekindle old memories during their day-trip. Mr. Robinson (Edward Chapman) makes a poignant journey to the hotel where he'd honeymooned with his late wife. Ex-soldier Jim Carver (Donald Sinden) makes a trip to the WWII cemetery and is reunited with a little French girl, Martine (Odile Versois), who he had befriended during the war and has now developed into a beautiful young woman. Shorty Sharpe (Bill Owen) is conscious of his lack of height and tired of being the butt of people’s wisecracks so decides to join the Foreign Legion. At the end of the day the group are rounded up and board their ferry for the return trip – with some promising to return. |
