Plot SynopsisA major co-production treaty with Canada gave Milton Subotsky a quick opportunity to exploit the arrangement, and The Uncanny (1976) represents his first, post-Amicus attempt to concoct another of his cherished horror anthologies. This one is three tales of horror built around maleficent felines, stars Peter Cushing and Ray Milland and is very mediocre indeed. In his usual fashion, Subotsky laid the blame, in notably vicious terms, at the door of its Canadian director, Denis Heroux. A Montreal-based author, Wilbur Gray (Peter Cushing), convinced that cats are conspiring to replace the human race as masters of the earth, narrates three bizarre tales of feline terror. Gray attempts to sell his cautionary manuscript to an initially cynical prospective publisher (Ray Milland). Cushing recounts three stories involving the murder of a wealthy widow in London, a supernatural tale from Quebec and the final story is set in the world of Hollywood filmmaking. |
