Plot Synopsis

Creaky country house murder mystery directed by Bernard Vorhaus and boosted by picturesque riverside scenes of rural England.

A doctor (Nigel Playfair) and vicar (Lewis Casson) who spend their days idly fishing on the river turn to investigating when a member of the parish stands up in church and declares the recently deceased squire of the manor had been murdered. Sure enough, Scotland Yard Inspector Wolf (George Merritt) is called in to investigate and after exhuming the squire’s body it’s discovered he had in fact been poisoned. The squire left the majority of his estate to his young niece Sylvia (Sally Blane), but Claire Winslow (Phyllis Dare) reveals she is secretly married to the late squire. Suspicion falls on Sylvia’s fiancé Tony Fields (Anthony Bushell) until the sleuthing clergyman uncovers the killers identity.
