Plot SynopsisLaborious siege story from sexploitation helmer Donovan Winter has little going for it in the way of dramatic tension or originality. Essentially a reworking of William Wyler’s The Desperate Hours (1955), this Home Counties hokum starts relatively well with a reasonably gripping opening sequence, but the human drama plunges into sexploitation and a risible debate on the iniquities of the class system. When bank manager Martin Hammond (James Kerry) leaves for work early one morning, two masked gunmen, Ron (Derren Nesbitt) and his youthful partner, force their way into his home taking his wife Wendy (Sylvia Syms) and children Nicola and Jamie hostage until her husband opens the vault. During the raid a bank clerk is shot, and Martin rushes from the scene to be beside his detained family. An eager young police constable raises the alarm when he observes a gunman inside the Hammond home; leading to an inevitable stand-off with the authorities. The uncouth and depraved Ron, along with his immature accomplice (Alan Guy), subject the family to an afternoon of intimidation and terror before eventually seeking to make their getaway. |
