Plot Synopsis

Vintage British thriller based on the improbable Edgar Wallace novels. Director Norman Lee keeps things moving along briskly and packs plenty of goings-on into its relatively short running time, but the outlandish plot requires some suspension of disbelief. A follow-up J G Reeder turned up the following year in The Mind of Mr. J.G. Reeder (1939), and two Thames television series, The Mind of Mr. J.G. Reeder, in 1969 and 1972 when he was played by Hugh Burden.

Mr. J.G. Reeder (Gibb McLaughlin) is the eponymous government detective called in by the Bank of England to expose a gang of counterfeiters. Reeder assigns the case to Capt. Johnnie Gray (Peter Murray Hill), and to infiltrate the gang the budding young detective goes undercover in Dartmoor jail with a 6-month sentence for passing counterfeit notes.
