Action-packed Bulldog Drummond thriller that remains close to author
H. C. “Sapper” Neile’s original concept. Neatly plotted
and mixing humour with thrills it’s an exhilarating ride as Drummond
narrowly escapes death before a rousing Scottish finale.
Kalinsky (Hugh Miller), a financier who travels across the globe in
a blaze of publicity, arrives in London to allegedly act as a peacemaker
between nations. Kalinsky intends to use a pacifist organization called
‘The Key Club’ to conceal his attempts to steal the blueprints
to a prototype radio-controlled warplane. However, Kalinsky is notorious
to Scotland Yard as an unscrupulous gunrunner who is always prepared
to trade weapons to foreign powers in order to make a profit. When Caldwell
is making a phone-call to Scotland Yard he is interrupted and abducted
by a pair of Kalinsky’s henchmen. Caldwell manages to briefly
escape from captor’s car and whilst hiding in the night fog; he
throws a message wrapped around a stone through the window of a country
house that unbeknown to him is occupied by adventurer Captain Hugh "Bulldog"
Drummond (John Lodge).
The following morning, a mysterious woman, Doris (Dorothy Mackaill),
arrives at Drummond’s house claiming that her car has just broken
down. Drummond quickly realises that Doris is a femme fatale sent by
enemy agents with an ulterior motive for dropping in on him; but decides
to play along with her as a spiky relationship develops between the
two. Nonetheless, Drummond and his dippy bespectacled sidekick Algy
(Claud Allister) set about discovering Caldwell and uncovering the identity
of his kidnappers.
