Plot Synopsis

The first in newly launched Channel 4's First Love television-film series was this tender story of unrequited love set in a grammar school in 1948. The nostalgic coming-of-age story was written by celebrated writer Jack Rosenthal and based on his boyhood memories. Cricket commentator John Arlott provides the voiceover cricket commentary.

Set in post-war England, 'Quack Quack' Duckworth (John Albasiny) has only two ambitions: to score the winning run for England in a test match against Australia, and to kiss his classmate Ann (Abigail Cruttenden). So when he's cast opposite her in a school play that requires a kiss and England seems to be doing well in the cricket, life couldn't be better.
