Plot SynopsisWartime musical comedy featuring Arthur Askey, forties songstresses Evelyn Dall and Anne Shelton, and comedians Jack Train and Richard Hearne. Songs include If You Could Only Cook, 8. 50 Choo Choo to Waterloo, My Father Was a Yes Man, Keep Cool, Calm and Collect and A Fine How Do You Do. Terry Arden (Evelyn Dall) arrives in London from the USA to re-establish an ailing escort agency providing suitable companions to young men for the evening. The agency is called Miss London and half-owned by diminutive joker Arthur Bowden (Arthur Askey). Terry examines the current portfolio and decides the agency must embark on a recruitment drive and enlist a handful of beautiful London glamour ladies to accompany the many single officers on leave revelling in the capital. Their first client is Captain Rory O'More (Peter Graves), and the agency send railway announcer Gail Martin (Anne Shelton) to accompany him, but the date turns into a disaster when Arthur and Joe disrupt their romantic meal. With Miss London Ltd owing six months in rent arrears, they are thrown out into the street and subsequently find new premises at the Hotel Splendide hotel owned by Rory O’More – providing they can persuade Gail to return to the agency. |
