Plot SynopsisHorror sequel to Evil of Frankenstein, this stylishly directed and memorable affair is considered by genre aficionados to be one of the best Hammer productions. Hammer veteran Terence Fisher directs a well-crafted script that is maybe not what the title suggests or the uninitiated would expect, Cushing’s female creation is far from the traditional Boris Karloff monster and centres more on soul transference than body parts, and gore is sacrificed in favour of a gothic tale of love and revenge. Playboy magazine model, Susan Denberg (Ms. August, 1966) supplies the heaving bosom and titillation that would become commonplace with future Hammer productions. Mad scientist Baron Frankenstein (Peter Cushing) and assistant Dr. Hertz (Thorley Walters) transplant the tortured soul of a wrongly executed young man, Hans (Robert Morris), into the body of his horribly scarred lover Christina (Susan Denberg), who committed suicide after his death. The Baron restores Christine as a blonde beauty with the help of plastic surgery, but the mind of this monstrosity still wants revenge for the unjust execution. The three young men responsible face seduction and murder at the hands of Frankenstein's creation. After news that two of the three men have been murdered reaches Frankenstein, he realises it’s the soul of Hans wreaking revenge and races to stop the vengeful Christine completing the trio. |
