Plot SynopsisBased on the novel by Charles Terrot, this amiable all-star British farce concerns young songwriter Peter Weston (Donald Sinden) who seemingly has it all. All comes in the form of his fiancée, the wealthy socialite Vanessa (Diana Dors), who will be bringing with her an inheritance of millions. Unfortunately for Peter, whilst returning from Ireland by sea a fellow passenger leaves him a present - an affectionate baby alligator named Daisy. Peter hopes to drop Daisy in the Channel and free himself of the unwanted creature. However, he meets a beautiful Irish zoo worker, Moira (Jeannie Carson) who persuades him not to throw Daisy overboard. When back in England, Peter seeks to free himself of Daisy by offering her to dotty pet shop owner Prudence (Margaret Rutherford) or releasing her into the local municipal park pond - Moira is outraged and Daisy manages to find her way back home. Vanessa becomes increasingly suspicious of Peter's relationship with Moira and Daisy, and issues an ultimatum - her or the alligator. To patch up Vanessa and Peter's engagement plans, her father, the grumpy Sir Colebrook (James Robertson Justice), arranges for the newspapers to publicise a rally aimed at popularising alligators - but mayhem ensues when Daisy goes on a rampage. Matters are resolved when Peter and Vanessa discover their true loves. |
