  • I must have seen this more than once as a child in the 1960s. I never knew about the title, though. I always liked watching Micky Dolenz. Englishman Davy Jones was a star too, and funny with it.

    • For the last Saturday of the month this year I'll be posting new music released that month. Unlike July, August was a thin month, so I've included a couple of July releases that passed me by originally.

      • Business Of Dreams is the nom de musique of Los Angeles vocalist/guitarist Corey Cunningham, previously in bands Terry Malts and Magic Bullets. From his excellent second LP Ripe For Anarchy (Slumberland Records 2019) here's the official video for the title track. Next week I'll post a couple of his original songs from this year. Buy here: https://businessofdreams.bandcamp.co...pe-for-anarchy.

        • Ice were formed at the University of Essex in 1967 and released two singles for Decca as well as a half dozen Radio 1 sessions. This is their second single, Ice Man (Decca 7" 1968). Later in the year they became Affinity.

          • New Order have released a restored HD version of their famous and award winning video for True Faith (Factory 7"/12" 1987 cat no. FAC183), so I thought it was time to revisit the video. Totally barmy.

            • Pandelic are a post-rock trio from Myanmar (formerly Burma). This is the gorgeous EE9659, from their debut LP Escapade (self released 2017), buy here: https://pandelicmusic.bandcamp.com/album/escapade. Myanmar has had a troubled history, and this song & video reflects this. You'll notice that the song title is the licence plate of a taxi. This was driven by U Ne Win, a taxi driver who tragically lost his life trying to chase the assassin of human rights lawyer U Ko Ni. The song & video is dedicated to U Ne Win, a true working class hero. Knowing this adds poignancy to the song, which is hauntingly beautiful anyway.

              • Leeds seems to be having a musical resurgence recently (see Team Picture and Yard Act). (Katie) Harkin is a singer/songwriter formerly of Sky Larkin who's also played as touring member with Courtney Barrett, Sleater-Kinney (an obvious influence) and Wild Beasts. She's released one of the albums of the year, Harkin (HAND MIRROR 2020), and from it we finish with Mist On Glass, and then Decade. "I know what shame is ...". Buy here: https://handmirror.bandcamp.com/album/harkin-2. Until next week ...

                • We start today with a goodie, the promo video for The Beatles recording Hey Bulldog at Abbey Road in 1968. The track was eventually given away on the soundtrack album Yellow Submarine (Parlophone 1969). Overlooked for many years it's recently and rightly been reappraised. I love it for its piano riff, guitars, and great lyrical & vocal performance. Woof!

                    • Test Card F are a real rarity, an electro synth group formed in Norwich in 1981, see https://www.musicfromtheeastzone.co....EST_CARD_F.htm. This is the excellent Blanket Expression, from their John Peel session recorded 18/12/1982. Note the opening Casio rhythm track, and I love the melody. Utterly delightful.

                      • Our U.K. pop-psyche rarity from 1968 comes from The U (Don't) No Who. An ad hoc studio band formed in Birmingham to record demos for a new record label, from those sessions here's the excellent Now & Again Rebecca. For a demo, it sounds bloody good.

                        • We finish with a couple of brilliant reverbed indie pop tunes from Business of Dreams, as promised last week. Here are You Got Your Wish and then Anymore (check the oboe @ 01:08), both from his four track E.P. Well I See (self-released digital 2020), buy here: https://businessofdreams.bandcamp.com/album/well-i-see. Hope you like 'em. Until next week ...

                            • The Good Ones are three Rwandan farmers, survivors of the genocide, playing newly written songs on acoustic guitars & percussion, but within their musical tradition. Recorded in their hill farm, where they have no running water or electricity, their music is positive and celebratory, though some deal with their tragedies, including the death of a wife. From their third LP RWANDA, you should be loved (ANTI- Records 2019) here's the haunting Please Come Back To Me, featuring Corin Tucker of Sleater-Kinney on electric guitar. Buy here: https://thegoodonesband.bandcamp.com/.
