      • We start today with Australian & New Zealand pop superstars Crowded House and the official video for Distant Sun (Capitol 7"/CD 1993). I just adore the bass filigree from 01:13. Also on their fourth LP Together Alone (Capitol 1993).

        • Next up, 60s survivor, the gorgeous Marianne Faithfull and Something Better (Decca 7" 1969), here from The Rolling Stones Rock 'n' Roll Circus. Love the dress.

            • Upset are a Los Angeles riot grrrl quartet who've released three albums since they formed in 2013. This is the banging Tried & True, from their most recent long player Upset (Lauren Records 2019). Buy here: https://totallyupset.bandcamp.com/album/upset.

              • We finish today with one of Britain's most exciting new acts, Porridge Radio. Formed in Brighton in 2015, they are noted for vocalist Dana Margolin's alternately impassioned and sardonic vocal delivery, and her intriguing lyrics, which furrow the warring human desires to belong and yet also to be free, particularly in relationships. Here are the official videos for the slightly Bowie/Roxy Give/Take and the dynamic Lilac, from one of the albums of the year, Every Bad (Secretly Canadian 2020) . Hope you like them. Buy here: https://porridgeradio.bandcamp.com/album/every-bad. Until next week ...

                  • We start today with an absolute classic from Aretha Franklin and Do Right Woman, Do Right Man, originally the B-side of her single I Never Loved A Man (The Way I Love You) (Atlantic 7" 1967), collected on her superb album Aretha's Gold (Atlantic 1968), an absolute essential for any self-respecting 60s record collection.

                    • French For Rabbits (https://www.frenchforrabbits.com/), or Lapin as we call them chez agutterfan, are a New Zealand dream-pop/ethereal duo, and this is the wonderful Middle of the House (self released digital single 2019) which I would describe as delightful if it weren't for the dark lyrical subject matter. Buy here: https://frenchforrabbits.bandcamp.co...e-of-the-house. Hope you like it.

                      • Pure Hell were a U.S. Punk band, established in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, in 1974, the first all-Black punk/afropunk band. Released their only single, a cover of the Lee Hazelwood classic These Boots Were Made for Walking c/w No Rules (Golden Sphinx Records 7" 1978) in the U.K.. Absolutely fantastic.

                              • John Hartford (1937 – 2001) was an American folk, country, and bluegrass composer and musician known for his mastery of the fiddle and banjo, as well as for his witty lyrics, unique vocal style, and extensive knowledge of Mississippi River lore. His most famous song was Gentle on my Mind, but this is the delightful This Eve of Parting, from his third album The Love Album (RCA Victor 1968), the accompanying video being from the film Lady Bird, which introduced me to this excellent song.
