  • Who is Kim Woodburn and why is everyone talking about her?

    I was watching The Hollywood Reporter Actors Roundtable (I thoroughly recommend them, btw) on YouTube and the app decided, in its infinite wisdom, that I might like to see the best of Kim Woodburn on Celebrity Big Brother. I managed to watch about 10 minutes of this very aggressive woman getting very aggressive with a bunch of people I had also never heard of. A Google search afterwards reveals she has also been very aggressive on a number of other occasions.

    Whats this all about then? Is this some sort of act? Why is this news?

    Everyone? I'm not. I haven't heard anyone talking about her. Who is she? I've never heard of her

          Isn't "everyone" in that context just a figure of speech meaning lots of people?

              If so it's a bad figure of speech

              It's better to just say "lots of people are talking about ..."

              "Everyone" means everyone not "some people" or even "lots of people"

                Ok, if you want to be pernickety, why are an undetermined number of people on television, the Internet, print newspapers and probably (though, I can't substantiate it) the high street, talking about her?

                Maybe we should be this precise on all the topics, 'Bloomin Tennis', for example, surely you mean 'My tolerance for sport on television, specifically tennis, is waning'; or 'Tories Imploding', can't possibly refer to people collapsing violently inwards, can it?

                      That's another way of saying "accurate" isn't it?

                        Hmm, can't find that as a synonym anywhere.

                        Found this online though:

                        pedantic
                        pɪˈdantɪk/
                        adjective
                        adjective: pedantic
                        • excessively concerned with minor details or rules; overscrupulous.
                          "his analyses are careful and even painstaking, but never pedantic"
                          synonyms: overscrupulous, scrupulous, precise, exact, over-exacting, perfectionist, precisionist, punctilious, meticulous, fussy, fastidious, finical, finicky; dogmatic, purist, literalist, literalistic, formalist, scholastic;
                          casuistic, casuistical, sophistic, sophistical;
                          captious, hair-splitting, quibbling, pettifogging, fault-finding, hypercritical, cavilling, carping;
                          informalnitpicking, pernickety;
                          archaicovernice
                          "a pedantic interpretation of the rules"

                          learned, cerebral, didactic, bookish, pedagogic, donnish, highbrow, ivory-tower, pretentious, pompous;
                          intellectual, academic, scholastic, scholarly, literary;
                          informalegghead
                          "pedantic words like ‘irriguous’"

                        Gosh, lexicographers are so pedantic these day! My trustee 1948 Chambers simply says: "vainly displaying knowledge".

                            You just need to appear on big brother and people will start talking about you if you a problem creator in this show

                              Is this aggression thing part of her act, Alex? I see she is some sort of television presenter. There is a big thing about bullying in the media but from what little I saw she seemed to be something of a bully herself
