Thousands are heading toward the U.S. border with the intention of entering the U.S.A. PresidentTrump has sent armforces, military, to prevent them from entering our country. This is one time he is right. Thousand of undocumented individuals entering the U.S. Among that group their could be criminals, individuals entering with the Idea of committing acts of terror, child molesters and other offenses that would make individuals denied the right to live and work in the U.S.A. I am quite sure if this was happening in England or any other country, their would be concern. If you want to enter the U.S. go through the immigration process.

I haven't really been following the story, so forgive me a dumb question. What do they hope to gain by this convoy, why don't they just show up at the border and go through the immigration process?

Too many of them. Processing them would take forever and a day.

Politico says: It is legal for foreign nationals to present themselves at the U.S. border and apply for asylum, but Trump has been trying to curtail legal pathways for asylum-seekers by an executive order.

I can almost picture Donald speaking.

...and Shirley's correct. They're not doing anything illegal as yet, but Trump is trying to bend the rules.

so, if thats the case, why don't the US just close the border to them and then its Mexico's problem as to do with them? A bit like the transit camps on the other side of the Channel a dew years ago.

... which is what it's all about. Closing the border to them won't keep them out, that's why Trump wants to build a wall.

If Trump builds that wall, and expects Mexico is going to pay for it. Will it keep the migrants and others out of the U.S.A.? They, will dig under the wall. As to the cost to build the wall, and who will pay for it ? Trump said Mexico will pay. Mexico’s reply, no way.

Sending troops to the border is a political stunt. The US military fights on foreign soil. It has no authority to enforce US law within the country. That's why we have police and border patrol agents.

The Department of Defense is actually calling this a stunt, and estimates that fewer than 20% of these desperate women and children will actually make it to the border, still more than a month's travel away.

Trump is scaremongering so as to instill fear of immigrants into the minds of his supporters, to scare them into going to the polls on Tuesday. Trump rightly fears that sane voters will cause the House Of Representatiaves to shift into the control of the Democratic Party.

Since any impeachment proceedings must be initiated by the House Of Representatives, a Democratically-controlled House could initiate hearings, compel testimony from witnesses that the Republicans have avoided, and compel the release of Trump's tax returns.

Trump fears that his links to Russian oligarchs will come to light, as well as his collusion to steal the 2016 presidential election. And he will die in prison.

I believe 'he will die in prison was the comment made to a journalist by a high ranking member of the US intelligence community just after his inauguration- we can only hope...

I am looking at the early voting numbers coming out of various states, and they are very high. The msm narrative is that Trump has wound up his base with his nativist language. But that cuts both ways - it fires up possible Dem voters as well. We will see soon enough, but we know the GOP is worried.

Of course, if the House and even the Senate fall, he will blame everyone but himself. And then he will try to avoid the subpoenas.

Ýou are absolutely right about Trumps moving of troops to the area - it's a stunt, and possibly not even legal under Posse Comitatas.

The ones that really scare me are the people who are essentially a private army who patrol the Border, which was featured in an undercover Mother Jones cover story a year or two ago - quite the modern day Sturmabteilung. Just looking at Don Trump Jr's recent tweets, you can see where they have been going, and it's not a pretty place.

Trumps racist campaigning may have shored up some of the Republican base, but it turned off others, and pushed up Dem turnout.

Now he is going to be worse - the press conference today was basically unhinged, and he trìed to defend the banned ad, when he wasn't shouting at a CNN reporter or going off on strange tangents. Sessions might have resigned, which means he can get a pliant AT to close down Mueller, but Dems taking the House means that will be protected, and of course create even more things to investigate.

racism works, as Republcians are close to winning in GA and FL. But there are only so many racists, and demographics mean that's more difficult to pull off.

Yes, it's too bad that a Democratic majority in the Senate didn't happen. Perhaps a bridge too far. But at least a Democratic House will be able to provide a check on the power of a president who seems out of control, obviously fearful that he will go to jail for his collusion with Russia to steal the 2016 election.

The country's demographics have been changing for a long time, towards a greater proportion of minorities, especially Hispanics. Every politician in Washington knows that, eventually, minority rule by old rich white men will be gone, replaced by a mix of younger men and women of mixed ethnicity.

But the old rich white male establishment is trying to hang on to power for as long as possible, even if they have to cheat in order to do so. Thus we see all of the efforts by the old rich white Republicans to suppress the (largely minority) Democratic voter turnout. I am heartened by the number of women who, motivated by their disgust for the current president, have chosen to enter politics.
