  • The Films of Elvin Hood

I am using this thread to try and identify two actors who used the name Elvin Hood
    Elvin Hood 1929-1967
    Elvin Henry Hood 1926-2006

Elvin's filmography runs from 1946 to 1980, so i suspect the first used the name until his death and the second took up his real name when it became available. Elvin was credited in several sadly missing episodes of 'No Hiding Place'.

Thanks to Scott Palmer and Dave Wright for information supplied.

I have seen pictures of Stewart Rome but i couldn't match them up with film
I am certain that Elvin will be one of Movie Dudes Unknowns but i certainly didn't spot the 16/17 year old Elvin here, i did see UF's 12, 51 UM's 1,18,43, 56, 63, 70, 189,204.

David McCallum is the famous actor's Father. Gifford and Quinlan have Yehudi Menuhin in the cast, maybe he is sat with the orchestra?

Thanks to Scott Palmer and Gerald Lovell for information used in this listing.

    Anymore?

Marian Spencer, Ian Wilson, Elvin Hood

Thanks to Gerald Lovell for some of the credits above.

IMDb watch - listed incorrectly as credited, Leslie Dwyer, Mary Jerrold, Wilfrid Hyde-White, Ian Carmichael.
Credited actors not listed at all - Mary Horn, Martin Miller

I have left Mary Horn unnattributed as i am not familiar with her and i don't know what she looks like, i suspect she is the assistant in the clothes repair shop who has several scenes.

I have included Marian Spencer as she appears in the extended cast list as 'Aunt Lottie', i didn't spot Marian or the Aunt character, she may have had her scene deleted, i have also included Ian Wilson even though i didn't spot him, the credit is a historical one. I have not included Miles Malleson who's IMDb entry seems to be spurious.

There is a potential candidate for the 19 year old Elvin Hood here, a young looking (Movie Dude's) Unknown Male 177.
        Also here UF13, UM's 13, 101, 209, 263, 267

        Character parts as yet unidentified

Chubby Seamstress (this one is most frustrating, i feel i know her identity but it has gone)
        Charley - Newsvendor
Barman in the Anchor (Norman Pierce?)
Police Driver (seen earlier at crime scene)
        Toilet Attendant
        Singer in Club
        Lady manning the Kiosk
        Florest
Two Record Shop Assistant (One of them is a deadringer for Celia Johnson)

Gareth van den Bogaerde - Esther's Teenage Son
Philip Ashley, John Edward Davy, Joseph Dillon, Elvin Hood, George Leech, Manny Michael, Bill Munt, Peter Munt, Peter Perkins

Thanks to Gerald Lovell for some of the sightings above.

Philip Ashley and Joseph Dillon are historic credits, i didn't spot Philip who is playing 'The Young Swell', i don't know who Joseph is unfortunately. John Edward Davy is probably an anecdotal credit, the Fire-Eater is seen very briefly and there are two boys stood with him, i guess John Edward is one of them.
Tony Benson is better known here as Tony Mendleson, Roger Simons had said that he only knew Tony as Benson.

Character actors not known or credited (maybe Joseph Dillon is one of these)

New Tenant at Esther's Mother's house
          Policeman
          Florrie (the Policeman's Sister)
          Employer and her Naughty Son
          1881 Rude Heartless Employer
          Esther's Son Age 6
          Mrs Lewis
          Doctor

No Elvin Hood candidates here, not even a sighting of UM177, the Derby Day events warranted a large call, so many of our favourites passed by unnoticed.

          Also here UM's 27,37 (T'Old Codger),84,127,171

Nicholas Hill, Gordon Phillott, Ivan Staff, Pauline Chamberlain, Elvin Hood, George Leech, Manny Michael, Bill Munt, Peter Munt, Peter Perkins

I have included Nicholas Hill, Gordon Phillott and Ivan Staff as they are included in the Extended Cast List, Nicholas was supposed to play the 'Sergeant at Arms', in the film Miles Silverton takes that role, so Nicholas has either been replaced or the attribution is wrong. Gordon and Ivan i didn't see, their scenes may have been deleted.

No Elvin Hood candidates on view unfortunately, the following unknowns (from Movie Dude) did appear UM10, 13, 34, 46, 81,99, 134, 209, 230

Great stuff, philly. I think there's another credited name: Roy Carr as Benny Spiller.

Eagle-Eyed forum members may notice that 'Frank Howard' appears twice and they both appear at the Exhibition, they are two different actors with the same name, the one who was knocked over was a stunt man the other a supporting actor.

Thanks to Gerald Lovell, Movie Dude and Dave Wright for some of the identifications above.

I haven't included Robert Coote or Richard Wattis, i suspect their appearance in the IMDb listing to be spurious.
