Battle of the River Plate (1956) AKA Pursuit of the Graf Spee in the US of A reputedly because the distributors thought that some American audiences might think it was about the River Platte and that it was a western

Not a bad film, although scriptwriter Emeric Pressburger couldn't do a lot with it. It was such an amazing story as it stood (a bit like their Ill Met by Moonlight (1957)) that he couldn't really add his usual touches to it. But Micky Powell had a fleet of warships to play with for the filming

Royal Command Film Performance on 29 October 1956. P&P's 2nd royal command film

Not unlike Hammer's The Devil Rides Out being renamed The Devil's Bride in the US of A because the distributors (20th Century-Fox) thought that some American audiences might think it was a western.

Interesting to see Kubrick involved in 'The Burning Secret' - a property that M-G-M bought and tried year after year to get off the ground - but 'Forty Days of Musa Dagh' probably holds the record for aborted take-offs.

In fairness, both British titles do sound like 1940s ‘B’ westerns
