I don't suppose that the Odeon, Norwich, is still there...at least in the form it was in 1971. There can't be many issues of Kine Weekly from 1971 left to upload now, Stephen.

The exterior building is still standing (see pic above and below), but is now operated as four screens and is leased by an independent operator 'Hollywood Cinemas' :

Incidentally, when it was known as the Odeon (from 1971) , the cinema building was not owned by the Rank Organisation but was leased from the property company that created the Anglia Square Development.....the screen and projection was superb back then.....

Thanks for the info and the link, Julian. I suppose everything's gone digital there now. Not a reel of film in sight.

The Odeon Norwich was tripled by Rank in 1991 in the same way as they tripled other stadium plan cinemas in Harlow and Swansea. The rear corners were boxed in to create the "minis" while the front section became the main screen with projection from the original box down a passageway between the minis which got wider as it progressed to match the projector beam. As the rear seating section at these cinemas was stepped, the minis had better sightlines and loftier ceilings than the typical under rear stalls minis of the seventies conversions and bigger seating capacities (243/201 at Harlow, 242/172 at Swansea and 195/195 at Norwich). The quid pro quo was that the biggest auditorium was now composed of what used to be the worst seats in the house, the front stalls. As far as I know the current Hollywood cinema still operates as a three screen cinema (not four, difficult to see how a fourth screen could be accommodated), of the other two, Harlow still stands empty and Swansea was demolished at the end of last year.
