No doubt an obituary will follow shortly in one of the newspapers.

A superb and distinguished career in British television as director and/or producer, from The Liver Birds to As Time Goes By, with many hilarious highlights in between. His credits: https://www.imdb.com/name/nm0521535/?ref_=fn_al_nm_1.

One of the BBC's creative comedy dreamtime of the seventies, along with people like John Howard Davies.
Sydney leaves a legacy of great comedy.

      RIP

I once met John Howard Davies - I repaired his computer or his internet connection in about 2010 - and on the wall of his study there were a few photos of programmes he'd produced. He was happy to talk about them - and surprised to find someone who recognised his name - but he was incredibly modest about his "little contribution".

I seem to recall that his name was taken in vain in At Last the 1948 Show and Marty Feldman when he had his own series

Yes, played by Zoot Money, who used to perform with Eric Burdon & the Animals.

I couldn’t say if it’s an in joke. But the feature film wasn’t produced by Sydney.
