    They are both set in grand residences during the 1920s and feature the interplay between the posh, titled gentry and their domestic servants, including in both cases a grumpy butler.

    They both touch on the same real world events of their era: the sinking of the Titanic, the worlwide flu pandemic, the Marconi Scandal, the outbreak of the First World War etc.

    As far as I'm concerned, Downton Abbey is a tweaked, modern re-boot of Upstairs Downstairs.
    Seems a fair observation, and there is no shame in that. Reinventing basic concepts. Themes, plots etc. for a contemporary audiences is the lifeblood of performance art.
