  • Carlo Landi, The Story Of Esther Costello

Why was the name Carlo Landi used in the movie "The Story of Esther Costello"? Is is just a coincidence that Joan Crawford met my grandfather, Carlo Landi, from LaSpezia Italy, at the the Fountainbleau Hotel in Miami, FL, in 1954? She showered him with photos and autographs for many years following.

Carlo Landi was played by Rossano Brazzi in The Story of Esther Costello.

I would guess that the character’s name was chosen by the author of the book that the story was taken from, Nicholas Monsarrat. I expect that it’s just a coincidence that that’s also your grandfather’s name.

There are extracts from Nicholas Monsarrat's "Story Of Esther Costello" online but I can see no Carlo Landi there.
