  • Brit film late 90s early 00s

One of those films of the Trainspotting/Human Traffic ilk. I watched it about 15 years ago on BBC.

What I remember: Two young lonesome guys can't find women and start to get desperate. They have no luck on nights out, but one has a plan to go to a club where there are mature women that he suggests will be easier to pull in. He is successful and finds his ideal woman, until it turns out she is far too rough in the bedroom and has a scratching fetish where she likes to draw blood. He goes back with his friend to the club and I remember this scene where the landlord tells him at the bar that he's disgusting and he knows what he's up to. I also remember one scene where the lead character masturbates while watching porn on a small tv in his bedroom and out of frustration he starts to cry. I remember hearing the term 'cry wank' after this film and always assumed it derived from that scene, but it probably didn't.

That's all I definitely remember. One other thing I have memory of or I might be getting confused with another film of that era - The two men worked at a budget supermarket.

Been trying to find that film for a decade now but can't find anything after exhaustive google searches. Would be very grateful if anyone knows it? Cheers

I can't remember. Nothing in my memory makes me think it is.

          Hi Myrtle,

I believe the film you're asking about is called "Intermission", and it's Cillian Murphy & David Wilmot who went looking for romance.
          It was shot in Dublin.

          Regards

          Lassard.

I've just watched the trailer and that's not the one I'm afraid :( Thanks for trying though.

And DocRob it's not Sex Lives of the Potato Men either sadly

Oops I seem to have just suffered a brain malfunction watching that trailer. There was something familiar about it, so I've just had a brief skip through a stream of the film and it IS the one! Unbelievable, I will watch the film in full later tonight.

Thank you so much Lassard! I have just been on BBC's genome site which lists every single Radio Times schedule for every day of any decade. I was about to undertake a decade of listings which I'm sure would have taken me weeks. You've saved me that torture!

Look's like I was wrong about it being British. Still, thanks again Lassard, you've made my day :)
